Originally built in 1809 by shipowner William Hammatt, the Hedge House stands as one of Plymouth’s finest surviving examples of Federal-era architecture, complete with rare octagonal rooms and an intact carriage house. Later expanded by merchant and industrialist Thomas Hedge, the home reflects a chapter of Plymouth’s entrepreneurial rise—anchored by ventures in whaling, candle making, and brick manufacturing. Rescued from demolition in 1919 and relocated to Water Street, the Hedge House Museum now showcases 19th-century domestic life through period furnishings, China Trade goods, and heirloom textiles. Visitors can enjoy special open-house events or schedule private tours to explore this historic treasure (info).

Tonight’s sky in Plymouth is lit by a nearly full waning gibbous moon (98.9% bright!), but early risers will get the real treat. Just before sunrise, Venus, Saturn, and the Moon will begin to align—a cosmic sneak peek ahead of their full trio lineup on May 23rd. Venus shines brilliantly from 3:32 am, Saturn follows just after 3:18 am, and Mercury peeks up at 4:46 am for the eagle-eyed observer. Whether you're stargazing after sunset or scanning the horizon at dawn, there’s plenty to catch if you’re looking up!
