Plymouth Pod #30

This week in Plymouth

Hi All! Lots of summer deals happening this week so let’s get into it!

Into the Pine Barrens: Myles Standish State Forest

Myles Standish State Forest sprawls across 12,000+ acres, making it the largest public open space in southeastern Massachusetts — and home to the world’s third-largest pine barrens. You’ll find 58 glacier-carved kettle ponds, two working cranberry bogs, and rare habitats that shelter 42 endangered species, from the Northern Red-bellied Cooter to prairie warblers. Built up in part by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s (who planted over 700,000 trees), the forest now offers miles of bike paths, hiking trails, and horseback riding routes. In summer, snack on wild blueberries along the trail; in fall, watch for game birds in designated hunting areas; and year-round, soak in the scenery that has been 400 million years in the making.
