This week in Plymouth
Hi All! I hope everyone is having a great week. We are kicking-off September with lots to look forward. If there are any events that you’d like to featured, submit below using the “Submit Event” button. Alright, let’s get into it!
Trail of the Week: Whitney and Thayer Woods
Stretching across 824 acres, Whitney & Thayer Woods offers more than 10 miles of well-marked trails that link to Weir River Farm, Turkey Hill, Wompatuck State Park, and other nearby conservation lands—together forming the largest contiguous open space on the South Shore.
This Trustees-owned property brims with history: once farmland and later equestrian country, the wide carriage roads still suggest horse-drawn buggies passing beneath the trees. Notable landmarks include the striking Bigelow Boulder (a glacial erratic), the rocky refuge of Ode’s Den, and the flower-lined Milliken Memorial Path, planted with rhododendrons and azaleas in the 1920s.
The land also carries a deeper legacy: before European settlement, the Massachusett people maintained a summer village here known as Quonahassit—“long rocky place”—living, farming, and fishing along the coast.
Today, visitors can enjoy shady woodland hikes past stone walls, streams, and groves of holly. A short Blue Loop highlights glacial boulders, while longer treks connect through rolling terrain into neighboring parks. Whether you’re looking for a one-hour wander or a two-hour adventure, Whitney & Thayer Woods offers a rich mix of nature, history, and local heritage. For full details check it out here.
