Trail of the Week: Ellisville Harbor State Park (Plymouth)

Looking for a peaceful coastal walk with a touch of history? Ellisville Harbor State Park offers a half-mile trail overlooking Cape Cod Bay, winding above a salt marsh and rocky shoreline. Along the way, enjoy sweeping ocean views, spot fishing boats and harbor seals offshore, and watch for nesting and migrating birds. The path ends at a secluded sandy beach (note: swimming is allowed but there are no lifeguards).

The park is home to a rich blend of habitats — salt marsh, meadow, forest, and barrier beach — making it a haven for wildlife, including piping plovers and least terns. Evidence of Native American life dating back thousands of years has been found here, and early colonial families once fished, farmed, and shipped timber from the harbor, then known as Great Salt Pond.
