Plymouth Pod #42

This week in Plymouth County.

Hi All! Happy November - the holidays are on the horizon so I’ve included some upcoming holiday style events. Let’s get into it!

Trail of the Week: Couch Beach (Marshfield)

Couch Beach is a peaceful 20-acre town-owned property along the North River in Marshfield. A short 1/3-mile forest walk from the Couch Memorial Cemetery leads to a small sandy beach. The river views are lovely, though currents can be strong, so caution is advised.

The area’s pine forest and open shoreline make it great for spotting wildlife such as foxes, deer, geese, and songbirds. Anglers will find a mix of freshwater and saltwater species, including striped bass, perch, and trout. Seasonal vernal pools near the trail provide important amphibian habitat.

Camping is permitted by reservation for local nonprofit groups; contact Marshfield Conservation for details. As always, please “leave no trace” to help preserve this much-loved spot.

Fun fact: Longtime locals may remember Couch Beach’s old nickname—“Garbage Gut”—but don’t be fooled; it’s one of the North River’s hidden gems.
