Plymouth Pod #54
This week in Plymouth County
Hi All! It’s February so a lot is happening with V-day around the corner and school break. Next week, I’ll be putting together a special vacation mode preparation so that y’all can prepare for an epic February break staycation.
Alright, with that, let’s get into it!
The Plymouth Pod Dinner Club
The votes are in: The Plymouth Pod Dinner Club is officially a go!
I’m currently working to put it together and I’m hoping to announce the inaugural dinner next week. A lot of folks asked about location and for our first dinner it will be downtown Plymouth! Stay tuned for details.

Step into Winter: Snowshoeing the South Shore
If winter adventure is calling, snowshoeing is one of the easiest ways to answer, no long drive required. Humans have been strapping oversized “feet” to their boots for more than 6,000 years, a clever invention believed to have evolved from early skis used by people crossing the Bering Land Bridge. By spreading weight across the snow, snowshoes let us float instead of sink (the same trick used by the Canada lynx and its comically large paws—nature knew what it was doing). Traditional snowshoes were crafted from bent ash wood and rawhide, with styles like Bear Paw, Yukon, and Beavertail designed for everything from tight forests to long-distance treks. Today’s versions are lighter, smaller, and far more beginner-friendly, but the joy of crunching quietly through a snowy landscape is timeless.
Locally, you don’t have to go far to try it yourself. Wompatuck State Park in Hingham offers miles of wide former access roads and winding trails across 3,500+ acres, perfect for snowshoeing when conditions are right. For harbor views with your winter wander, World’s End delivers rolling hills, carriage paths, and sweeping scenery that feels especially magical after a fresh snowfall. Just be sure to check parking and seasonal access before heading out, bundle up, and enjoy seeing the South Shore from a whole new (snow-topped) perspective.

Tides & Tails
Night Sky: 14 hours of darkness under a 96% waning gibbous Moon, lighting up the sky after sunset at 5:00 pm. Jupiter is the star of the show, bright and easy to spot all evening and through most of the night, while Saturn hangs out after dusk. Venus and Mercury hug the horizon just after sunset (blink and you’ll miss them), and Uranus and Neptune are visible with binoculars. A great night for moon-watching and planet-spotting before twilight returns around 5:49 am.
